Rhinoplasty

A “nose job” or rhinoplasty refers to the surgical procedure aimed at enhancing both the form (shape) and function (breathing) of the nose. This surgery is among the most frequently performed facial plastic procedures, appealing to both men and women alike.

Who is a Good Candidate for a “Nose Job”?

Anyone that desires subtle or more significant changes to their nose may be a good candidate for rhinoplasty. The surgery can reduce or augment the nose’s size, redefine the nasal tip, adjust its positioning upwards or downwards, and refine the width or alignment of the nasal bridge. Preferences among patients can vary, including desires for a smaller, straighter, less pronounced hump, or narrower nose.

In order to attain the best outcome, the surgical plan will be aligned with the patient’s envisioned result. It’s important that your plastic surgeon allocates time to actively listen to your desires and comprehensively understand your aspirations when it comes to rhinoplasty in Philadelphia.

The Benefits of Rhinoplasty

Under the expertise of a proficient facial plastic surgeon rhinoplasty holds the potential to address a spectrum of aesthetic and functional concerns. Beyond addressing humps, refining symmetry, and adjusting the width of the nasal bridge.

This intervention is also great at modifying the angle of the nasal tip, resizing the nostril openings, improving breathing, and even altering the length of the nose. If there’s a particular aspect you are focused on, you can communicate your objective to the surgeon.

How is Rhinoplasty Surgery Performed?

From a technical standpoint, rhinoplasty involves small incisions strategically placed in  the columella area between the nostrils and inside the nostrils. These incisions serve as access points for the surgeon to gently elevate the skin, unveiling a clear view of the underlying bone and cartilage structures.

These foundational elements are then expertly contoured to establish a more harmonious and balanced nasal appearance in relation to the overall facial features. The duration of the procedure typically spans between two to four hours, depending on the severity of the case.

What is Recovery from Rhinoplasty Like?

After your rhinoplasty procedure, it’s important to arrange for transportation home. Initially, your nose may feel congested, but this sensation will gradually improve over time. Post-operation discomfort is generally minimal.

Most patients experience some pressure from the internal swelling within the nose. Any discomfort can be effectively managed with pain medication. Following the first 1 to 2 days, the majority finds that only over-the-counter pain medication is necessary, if anything.

In the next 2 weeks, you may notice varying degrees of swelling and bruising. To minimize these effects, it’s advisable to sleep with your head elevated above heart level. The majority of swelling should subside within about six weeks, although a subtle and barely noticeable level of swelling might persist for a few months post-treatment.

How Long Does it Take to See the Final Results?

While the initial new look and shape can be seen in the first 6 to 8 weeks often it can take 6 months to a year to have the swelling fully resolve to see the final result.
